Welcome
An intro to by substack page
There have been lots of new friends here over the last few days, so I figured I’d reintroduce myself
Beloved & Becoming is a space to remember who you truly are: deeply loved, radically free, and always unfolding.
I’m Tyler Hill, a Benedictine oblate of Benet Hill Monastery. This means I’ve made a lifelong commitment to integrating the contemplative and monastic wisdom of St. Benedict into everyday life. After many years of running a coffee company I founded, I sold it and spent two intense years at the monastery, and have now been studying there for seven years. My writing and creative work live at the intersection of mysticism, spiritual formation, and my experience leading and working in the 21st century.
Like Benedict, I believe everything is drenched in the sacred, and that there is a voice beneath all things continually speaking belovedness to and through us. This means my punk ethos, my parenting, and my entrepreneurial work are not at war with a deeply contemplative life. I hope that we learn to hear the divine voice of love in all of life.
At the heart of my work is this simple conviction: before we strive, improve, perform, or become, we are already fully known and fully loved. Beloved. From that place, we begin to live more freely, more honestly, and more fully into the unique shape of who we are becoming.
My first book, Born Beloved, arrives at the end of September. It explores this same core truth in depth. That beneath every layer of striving or self-doubt is a more original identity: belovedness. It’s both a theological and human invitation to come home to that reality and learn to live from it in everyday life. I can’t wait for you to read it.
This Substack page aims to be a reflection of a grand integration. Here you will find:
Essays — Explorations of the sacred hidden in pop culture, daily life, and the unexpected places divinity shows up, alongside personal reflections on healing, creativity, mysticism, breathwork, and becoming.
St. Benedict — Reflections on the Rule of St. Benedict, reimagined for modern contemplatives seeking rhythm, presence, and the holy in the everyday.
Transmissions — An (almost) monthly offering of what’s moving through me: music, books, films, beauty, and small altars of the divine in unexpected places.
Beloved & Becoming is where:
Mystic meets modern. Punk meets prayer.
This is where the ordinary catches fire with the divine.
And where you’re invited, just as you are, to belong, become, and burn a little brighter.
I’m so glad you are here.

I am looking forward to your book. Do you consider yourself Christian? I wish there was a better word, maybe I could be a secular Christ yogi lol
I'm excited to get stuck into you writing Tyler, thanks for beginning your page. I find myself in a funny position in life at the moment: I feel a strong pull toward the love of Jesus yet have gained so much from great spiritual teachers like Ram Dass and his guru Neem Karoli Baba. (In fact, it was Ram Dass, Thich Nhat Hanh, Eckhart Tolle and Alan Watts who really brought me back to loving God after I 'ran' away from my Catholic upbringing due to the cliched "fear of eternal hell".) I'm wondering if you've wrestled with describing yourself as a Christian while still appreciating other spiritual paths? I'm not sure this can ever truly be reconciled logically or with words alone, but I'd love some of your thoughts. Thanks!
